South Dakota Rural Enterprise's Community Success Stories - Centerville Millennium Addition Housing Project

South Dakota Rural Enterprise's Community Success Stories - Centerville Millennium Addition Housing ProjectCenterville Millennium Addition Housing Project is Centerville Development Corporation’s 15 lot, affordable housing project. The goal was to provide high quality, affordable housing opportunities in Centerville, in an attempt to attract young families to our community.

Centerville identified housing as a top priority through the South Dakota Rural Development Council’s community assessment in 2004. It was confirmed by a housing survey completed by the South Eastern Council of Governments (SECOG) in 2005. The plan was initiated and implemented by the Centerville Development Corporation and is financially supported by Ft. Randall Telephone Company, South Dakota Housing Development Authority, the City of Centerville, and the Centerville Chamber of Commerce. Our technical support is provided by the Sioux Empire Housing Partnership. Among the organizations involved in the project are: The Centerville Development Corporation, SECOG, Fort Randall Telephone Company, USDA-Rural Development, City of Centerville, Centerville Chamber, Centerville Community Foundation, Sioux Empire Housing Partnership, South Dakota Housing Development Authority, South Dakota Rural Development Council and First Midwest Bank.

The project, to provide high quality, affordable housing in Centerville has been successful. In doing so, there have been many benefits. An important benefit has been the addition of new families to the community to help support our local businesses and our school system. The Centerville Development Corporation has played an important role monitoring the progress, results, and success of Centerville’s Housing project.

We worked with several lending partners to obtain the most favorable rates and terms, including: Ft. Randall Telephone - $130,000 @ 0% interest, SDHDA - $130,000 partnering on two stick built homes, $100,000 for two Governor’s houses, and $17,000 for lot development. (All SDHDA loans are at 0% interest for 6 months, moving to their Step Rate after 6 months), City of Centerville - $35,000 @ 0% interest, plus providing the lots and Centerville Chamber - $25,000 @ 0% interest.
