On behalf of the entire Board, I want to extend thanks and congratulations on a job well done to our Past Chair Linda Salmonson. With her leadership South Dakota Rural Enterprise and its sister corporation, Dakotas America, have thrived.
We are all about growing community opportunity for those who seek it. After deliberations over the last several months, we agree our capital must come with capacity building. Money alone isn’t the answer to turn the tide in waning rural economies. Rebuilding comes the old-fashioned way, through hard work and commitment to a bright future. How do you create a culture which inspires entrepreneurs? How do you support small businesses who want to grow? How do you build a 21st century rural community which attracts young talent? For those communities who want to make a difference, South Dakota Rural Enterprise has the tools to help build leadership capacity and the funds available to provide capital resources for growing community opportunity. I am reminded of Margaret Mead’s famous quote, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” There are many dedicated South Dakotans committed to building on their strengths to continue to improve the quality of life for their communities. South Dakota Rural Enterprise stands ready to help support those endeavors. |
