Development Institute provides creative networking opportunities

Development Institute participants work together to analyze rural community assets.South Dakota Rural Enterprise and Northwestern Energy partnered to host a Development Institute August 21st and 22nd at Cedar Shores in Oacoma. Meeting a need for connecting resources and peer networking, the Development Institute attracted rural development professionals, volunteers, board members and resource providers from across the State.

The Institute focused on a positive approach to community and economic development and creative problem solving. Luther Snow, author of "The Organization of Hope: A workbook for Rural Asset-Based Community Development," demonstrated a practical tool for identifying the assets of rural places and illustrated how to leverage what we have to create innovative opportunities for the future.

SD Rural Enterprise has a commitment to professional training and informational workshops. We hope to make the Development Institute an annual event.
