  FROM THE CHAIR by Cheryl Chapman South Dakota Rural Enterprise values its role in connecting community leaders with the information they need to grow and prosper. Whether it is the local economic development corporation or the individual entrepreneur, SD Rural Enterprise has the right tools and network of experts to help.  An excellent example is the upcoming Development Institute, scheduled for August 20-21 at the Cedar Shores Resort in Chamberlain. The informative sessions begin after lunch on Wednesday, August 20, with “Development 101” and continue into the evening with guest presenter Luther Snow, speaking on the topic of “Asset-Based Community Development for Rural Areas.” Thursday will focus on issues relevant to participants. Our quarterly Opportunity Roundtable teleconferences are another part of our communication and information-sharing strategy. These one-hour sessions, based around topics which are relevant to South Dakota communities today, feature experts from around the state and nation, in an interactive format that encourages the discussion of real-world issues. Other communication tools we utilize regularly to communicate with the community development industry in South Dakota include our newsletter, articles submitted to newspaper publishers quarterly, broadcast e-mails we use to keep you up-to-date and a regular communication of tips and trends from our president, Beth Davis.
