The sixth hour-long Opportunity Roundtable on September 20, 2007, centered on housing and rural development and featured the following Roundtable presenters:
Joy McCracken, Executive Director - founding director and chief administrative officer of Neighborhood Housing Services. Neighborhood Housing Services is a chartered member of Neighborhood Reinvestment and has been certified by HUD as a Housing Counseling Agency. Through their "Campaign for Homeownership" they have provided Homebuyer Education for more than 700 families; over 440 families have realized the American Dream of homeownership. Under the direction of Ms. McCracken, Neighborhood Housing Services continues to grow and expand their services to rural communities through out western South Dakota.
Tony Haarstad, President - Iroquois Housing, Inc.Iroquois Housing is an organized group of residents who assist any new home builders with land availability or financial options. We have also provided financial incentives. Iroquois Housing has utilized South Dakota's Governor House Program to help keep the costs affordable. We also clean up and/or purchase lots in Iroquois.
